My mother canned with the Gulf wax. That isn’t necessary anymore. Water bath canning for somethings, pressure canning for others.

I love making fridge pickles, pour the boiling brine over raw cukes. Let sit overnight or at least until cool, then put in fridge. Last months. But not shelf stable

I have seen a pan just like hers and it’s called a steamer water bath canner, don’t know much about it but I’m sure she has followed the directions on how to use it
