My older brother had Reye Syndrome when he was 15. Spent a week in the ICU with a bolt in his skull to relieve pressure. He’s 56 now and doing well.

It most often happens when kids are given aspirin when sick, especially with a virus, as viruses cause aspirin metabolites to build up in the liver.

The swelling injures the liver (as seen with increased liver enzymes and acidosis), which can lead to increased swelling around the brain!

🚨 Answer: A – give diuretics + fluids! This patient has most likely developed Reye Syndrome, a complication seen in kids given aspirin!

He shouldn’t of had Aspirin particularly not without medical supervision. He probably now has Reye’s Syndrome from it. The answer is 100% A. Giving
