Omg the “you alright?” in the Uk - I went when I was 18 and asked my friend “why does everyone keep asking if I’m okay? Do I look sick?” 🫣😆

Exactly. I love how polite the french are but they shouldn't judge automatically as it might just be cultural differences.

Also, if you walk into a small shop, in the US the worker should say Hello/welcome to the customer. In France, the customer should say Bonjour first.

We also say "excuse me" in stores to ask for help, but it must be followed with "Hello". The point is that you presented it as being insane because

Ye... basically "Excuse me"≠"Excusez moi" like in French it's not really a sign of politeness but more a demand to be listened to...

I’ve been blown away recently seeing French people in other countries making ZERO effort to say hello, please, thank you, in that country’s language.

In Japan, bowing would be the polite way. But the french don't usually do that. The Japanese will not be passive aggressive at them for not doing it.

That was a big problem I had in Paris. Of course I knew people said “Bonjour” but I didn’t realize anything else would be seen as disrespect 🥲

I think in the US if you do say hi first and then excuse me it can be seen as rude because you didn’t ask for their attention before talking to them.
