I think it’s a better bet to invest in a college savings plan that will grow interest than the kids to get a scholarships

My daughter did dance class at 3, she asked because of a preschool friend. But I never pushed sports.

My son goes to swim lessons & will start soccer. He doesn’t go to daycare & I feel bad for him not being around other kids like in 🇪🇸 (1)

In the 80s-90s it was like how you explain in Spain. Now it’s way too much … thanks for touching on this.

I’m from Aus but I find in Aus (compared to Spain) there is just so much more pressure to grow up in general… get good grades, go off to university,

I think one reason is for socialization (both for parents & kids). I think it’s a way to join a community because we lack community-belonging in US

I work in children’s athletics and so many parents think their kids will get a scholarship when so few actually do!

For me it was to get my daughter out of the house and moving her body. She only plays sports that she chooses I never chose for her.

Also, in the US(at least in the northeast), we don’t recommend sport specialization. We encourage playing multiple sports/cross training.

You’re right it’s part scholarship but also something to put on their college application.

Most sports don’t give full ride scholarships or even 1/2. Both gymnastics and football do and that’s where they are seeing things from.

agree - I felt being behind by putting my son to soccer when he was already 5 yo. all other kids were in sport since 3..

My guess is to receive good scholarships if they do all throughout school.

I grew up in OH/PA in the early 2000s. I only did swim lessons as a toddler and didn’t play a sport until I was 6 bc we spent more time going to parks

I’m from Canada and sports scholarships aren’t a thing here yet a lot of kids play sports from young age. My super active 3yo loves playing sports

From what I've seen it was more to keep kids active, social skills, enjoy and give kids privileges parents didn't have. It could be regional too.
