Read TSB. Requires a piece of adhesive black trim added by connector. Just did one. Still replaced sensor then added shim. PI0639D. No issues.

i have replaced them and they are smooth. that being said I would leave it but tell the customer if it comes back on you will warranty it.

gm is having quality issues. had the same thing happen in the same sensor. They also have junk knock sensors for the ls engines right now.
