“Jesus is my Sabbath, so I don’t need a day of rest!” That might sound spiritual, but it’s not biblical. Hebrews 4 doesn’t say the Sabbath was done away with—it says it remains. Throughout Hebrews 3–4, Paul uses the Greek word katapausis to describe spiritual rest in Christ—resting from works, entering salvation by faith. But then in Hebrews 4:9, he changes the word. Suddenly, it’s not katapausis anymore. It’s sabbatismos—and that word means literal Sabbath observance. Not spiritual. Not symbolic. Literal seventh-day rest. It’s only used once in the entire New Testament. And it’s right here—after the cross. Then in verse 4, Paul quotes directly from Genesis 2:2-3, reminding us that God Himself rested on the seventh day and sanctified it. No Jews. No Sinai. Just God… and Eden. In verse 10, he says that those who enter spiritual rest also cease from their works, just like God did. God ceased on the seventh day. That’s the model. And in verse 9? “There remaineth therefore a rest [sabbatismos] to the people of God.” If the Sabbath was abolished, Paul wouldn’t say it still “remains.” He’d say it was fulfilled, or nailed to the cross. But he didn’t. He said it still stands. The Sabbath is not legalism. It’s loyalty. It’s not about works. It’s about worship. Jesus didn’t replace the Sabbath—He’s the Lord of it (Mark 2:28). And if He’s your Lord… you’ll honor what He blessed. 📖 Isaiah 66:22-23 says all flesh will keep the Sabbath in the New Earth. So why fight it now? The Sabbath was given at creation. Commanded at Sinai. Kept by Jesus. Preserved by Paul. And still remains for God’s people today. Will you keep what God says still remains? 📍More truth at www.theadventtruth.com . #jesus #biblestudy #sabbath #seventhdayadventist #theadventtruth
