@nytimes: Video evidence reviewed by The New York Times shows that the brush fire that wiped out Lahaina ignited nine hours before it roared through town — flaring up in the afternoon after firefighters had declared it contained. The fire’s swift rampage and stunning death and destruction are already raising questions about whether there should have been more aggressive management of electrical power as high winds buffeted the island, earlier warnings for residents in the fire’s path and better management of traffic to avert the paralyzing gridlock that funneled many people into a death trap. #hawaii #maui #fire #lahaina

If the power lines were responsible, on a red flag warning day, the power company could be liable. That was the case here in CA.

There’s a minor potential that the last one might be a power line but the first two are 100% low voltage communication lines that wouldn’t start fire

I thought the power was cut. Does the powerlines still hold power if it’s turned off?

Even if lines are “ de energized, there is still enough voltage stored in the line to make a spark. Detached long lengths can collect static charge

Der starke Wind hat das Inferno verursacht! Durch den Wind wurden hohe Temperaturen erreicht, dadurch hat sich das Feuer schnell ausgebreitet.

Electrical power lines and communication lines are 2 totally separate items. If the area, out of power? then electrical lines probably were denergized

I live in a place in CA that has been devistated by wild fires a few times. Our power company is now installing underground power lines.
