For those who don’t know: if you are already in water at least 500 feet deep when a tsunami hits, or can get to water 1200 feet deep faster than you could get to safety on land, then you should head for deep water as fast as possible. If you’re already near land though definitely don’t head out unless the continental plate drops very close to shore. Tsunamis hitting the continental plate is when it turns into a gigantic wave versus a big swell in open water.
