@fourriversstudio: I had been sanding for hours but when i brought the piece into the house to show Firas, it was sitting in front of a well-lit window and showed every single scratch mark. I realized that I should have started at a lower grit to begin with. I went back with the finest burr I had and went over the deeper spots in the grooves to even them out, then I sanded with 60 grit and worked my way up the grits (60, 80, 100, 120, 180, 220, 320) This is what I've learned: -nothing is more effective as sanding by hand, which is an unfortunate truth because I pretty much don't have fingerprints left lol -good lighting is absolutely necessary to inspect your work for missed spots -you should never skip too high between grits, that's what leaves you with scratch marks from the lower grits. Sanding is the worst part of any of these power carving projects, but is also the most important. If something takes me 8 hours, 6 of those hours are usually dedicated to sanding. #sanding #carvingproject #powercarving #powercarvingtools #sandingbyhand #workinprogress #artworkinprogress #artprocess #sandingtips

All of my work needs to come with the disclaimer “to be viewed in a dim garden shed only! Mistakes revealed under good lighting are not my fault.”

There’s a flap sander called Sand-O-Flex that I use for tight spaces on wooden puzzles. Might be worth a try. Saves me hours in sanding.

I actually like sanding, but it gets to be too much for even me sometimes. Especially after you think you are finally done!

It’s not starting over, it’s just progressing. But yeah having to go over with a finer grit is frustrating.

You should get a Merlin. It helps a lot with those little crevices. It’s a mini angle grinder. You can attach a sponge sanding pad too
