@adampfau: The quads are one of the largest muscles in the body. Within the quads, the largest muscle is the vastus lateralis which is the outer quad and the part that contributes to the “outer sweep.” Although it’s important to hit the entire quadricep in your training, if you want to emphasize the outer sweep, then it’s imperative that you emphasize the vastus lateralis.
