Building adult friendships is hard. Ask anyone over 30 and they’ll tell you. I just turned 40, and when I was 30, I had zero friends. None. My circumstances were unique, I was a third-generation Jehovah’s Witness who had just come out as lesbian. Overnight, I lost every connection I had: friends, family, congregation, everything. And I had to start from scratch. That’s when my obsession with relational skills began. I realized I had been performing connection my whole life. Performing goodness, obedience, belonging, because in both religion and my African family, that’s what survival required. If you acted out, you got reported to the elders. If you disobeyed, you risked losing protection. So when I finally had freedom, I had no real skills for how to connect honestly, how to build relationships rooted in truth, or how to repair when things got messy. So I learned. Slowly, awkwardly, and over years. And that learning became the foundation of my work today. This is what I teach in Relational Skills for Liberation, how to build relationships that can hold difference, withstand rupture, and still feel like love. Relationships that are rooted in bold authenticity and love-centered boundaries, not performance or perfectionism. If this resonates join the waitlist in my bio for my last workshop of the year on November 8th. You’ll get early access, exclusive updates, and first dibs when registration opens. #RelationalSkillsForLiberation #AdultFriendships #RelearningConnection #LoveCenteredBoundaries #BoldAuthenticity ⸻ Would you like me to make a slightly tighter Reel caption version (still paragraph-style, just optimized for that format’s character cut-off and flow)?
