Always cut the tops off of merigolds (where the stem meets the flower bulb) once they’re finished blooming. Dry them out & they are full of hundreds of seeds!! I planted mine as seeds and have every color (oranges, yellows, limes and burnt reds) they’re doing beautifully & I planted the seeds in mid to late September. They’re gorgeous. (& fyi I never really liked them but this year I changed my mind)
