so damage this bad is likely termites. silverfish tend to prefer older bindings more. book lice go for older molding books and dont do quite that level of damage generally. 1/2

Freezing kills the larvae. I used to do some work with the National Trust, we would freeze all the antique books once a year to keep larvae away.
