Let’s make Empanadas (with beef & cheese)! Or what I’ve always known them as: Pastelillos 🇵🇷 When I was born up until 2nd grade, my family lived on the Lower West Side of Buffalo, the heart of the Puerto Rican community. I’ve tried for years to remake these similar to the ones at Niagara Cafe or Montes Grocery. I’d have to say it’s pretty close and does the job for anyone who’s misses the East Coast like I do! What do you call them? #cookingvideo #recipeshare #fyp #pastelillos #empanadas Empanadas /Pastelillos Recipe: 1 package Goya empanda dough (for frying) 1lb ground beef 3/4 can of goya tomato sauce 2 tablespoons sofrito 1 tablespoon recaito 2 tsp adobo (add more to taste) 1 packet sazon 1 tsp oregano 1 tsp black pepper 2/3 Spanish olives + 1 tablespoon olive brine American cheese/ any creamy cheese you prefer Mexican blend cheese [ ] Add 1tsp oil on medium heat and cook the sofrito & recaito for about 30 seconds. Add in the ground beef and cook throughly, breaking apart into little chunks. Once full cooked, drain the oil or use a paper towel to absorb. [ ] Add in sazon, adobo to your liking, black pepper, and the canned tomato sauce (low heat). Add in 2/3 olives & juice to add extra flavor. After fully incorporated, let cool for 20 min before forming empanadas. Remove the olives at this point. [] Make sure you fully defrost the empanada dough. With a rolling pin on a nonstick surface, roll out the dough to make wider. Add in meat, both cheeses and fold like a taco while pressing edges together. Seal with a fork around the outside. [ ] Fry empanadas at 350 until crispy golden brown. Flip the empanadas so they fry evenly. [ ] Drain on a paper towel & serve.
