I spun one of those bc the motor was locked up by the blown up injection pump, hit the starter and the gear spun and broke every rocker arm

Definitely not needed and it can cause a failure point in the gear depending on how hot it gets while welding. Take care of the engine and it’s fine.

We solved this problem in the year 1888 it’s called a woodruff key. Ford should look into this.

Same thing with any cummins crank and cam, some ppl weld the crank gear to the crank and either tap the cam n put s retainer in it or just weld it too
