It depends on the breed. Dogo Argentinos are cropped and docked because they are big game hunting dogs, less appendages that will get injured or torn

this is BY FAR not a regular occurrence, but dogs that get ear hematomas, wether it's just one really bad one or they get them repeatedly.

Tail & ear cropping originated for the safety of the dogs. Herding dogs would often get their ears & tails ripped up. Now it’s not so relevant.

The only actual reason is if the dog was bred for a job like hunting boar, military/police, etc. to avoid injury & infection. But that’s rare now

I've seen some dogs have hematomas and same thing with happy tail and them being cropped or docked helped.
