It depends on the breed. Dogo Argentinos are cropped and docked because they are big game hunting dogs, less appendages that will get injured or torn

Tail & ear cropping originated for the safety of the dogs. Herding dogs would often get their ears & tails ripped up. Now it’s not so relevant.
