You know all those regular pediatrician appointments where they always mention developmental milestones and warn against screen time for our little ones? 🧒👩‍⚕️ 🔬 A recent study published in the Journal of American Medical Association: Pediatrics dug a bit deeper into this topic. Here's a ver basic summary: More screen time, as shown previously, can indeed lead to delays the developmental milestones we care so much about. 🔍 The study found that increased screen time, especially more than an hour a day, had the most impact on communication and problem-solving skills. Also, kids that spent more than 4 hours a day with screen time had delays in those as well as motor and social delays. I know many parents who feel that any screen time will impact developmental delays, and while this shows that there is impact, small amounts of screen time are not likely slow development, especially if spending time reading, playing and engaging with your child. Now, let me say that in my own parenting approach I do allow a bit of screen time, but it's also limited. It's included in our nighttime routine, which isn’t always best for kids but it calms mine down. I am specific about the content. We're all about @Ms Rachel for Littles, specifically because of slow transitions and lots of language-focused content including songs, phonetics, and ASL. 🌙📚 I can't say for sure if Ms. Rachel is the secret to my child hitting those milestones, but here's one thing I found in my household: even when the screen is off, we use her songs and play ideas as tools to keep engaging our little one's development. So she has been as much of a support for me as she has been for my kiddo. And hey, even as someone who has worked with kids for a long time, I'm no expert on child's play. I think of Ms. Rachel like a parenting partner, helping me connect with my child on their level and support their growth and development. #ParentingJourney #ScreenTime #ChildDevelopment #fyp #developmentalmilestones
