@transformingtoddlerhood: 🌟 HOW TO GET YOUR TODDLER TO APOLOGIZE🌟 Follow @transformingtoddlerhood for more parenting tips! We started on the topic of forced apologies yesterday so I’d like to continue to talk about the common "you need to apologize right now" forced response VS actually demonstrating how to take ownership and modeling an apology. Here's an example: Your toddler is running around playing tag with a friend and he pushes the other child down on the ground. The other child's parent runs over and is making sure her child is okay. She might even be glaring in your direction waiting for you to respond... (side note → don't feel pressured by other parents to react in a certain way, be confident in the way you want to handle the situation and address your child❤️) Forced apology: "That's bad! You do not push other people. Say you're sorry right now." Your toddler may go to the child and say "Sorry." because he feels that that's what he needs to do to get out of trouble and continue playing. The problem we run into with that is that it lacks empathy. He isn't taught to realize how his action made the other child feel. Modeling an apology: "I'm sorry you got pushed. Are you ok?" "I'm sorry I yelled. Are you ok?" By modeling the behavior you want to see and getting down on his level to help demonstrate how to take ownership of his actions, you are helping him learn how to be empathic. That leads to authentic apologies over forced ones. 🌟 When do you notice that your toddler has a particularly hard time apologizing? 🌟 #parenting #toddlersoftiktok #toddlertips #kids #tipsandtricks
