@dorian.cinephile: Lazzaro felice (2018) - "Happy as Lazzaro is one of the most beautiful and unique films I have seen this year [...] Alice Rohrwacher masterfully blends past and present, using the pages of history to show us the contradictions of humanity." ~Martin Scorsese A film suspended between past and present, between life in the countryside and life in the metropolis, between fantasy and reality. "Il Grande Inganno" "Human beings are like animals. Set them free and they realize they are slaves locked in their own misery. Right now, they suffer, but they don't know. I exploit them, they exploit that poor man. It's a chain reaction that can't be stopped." Through the innocent eyes of Lazzaro, we observe this unbreakable chain of exploitation, of which Lazzaro is absolutely the last link, but he doesn't know it. Lazzaro is a good person. He doesn't even try to be, he's good in a naive and completely natural way. He cannot conceive of badness, cannot see malignity in people's gestures and intentions. In the peasant world he was the village idiot, teased and exploited to the point of exhaustion, but integrated and somehow protected. But in modernity, an incorruptible soul like his cannot place himself. In the modern world its goodness can only succumb under the blows of intolerance toward the different. Despite this, there is no sense of nostalgia. Peasant society isn't portrayed as an arcadian and ideal world, there are conditions of slavery and ignorance that, in any case, progress has failed to limit. Rather, domination has become more devious, while the face of an ideal enemy to fight becomes increasingly blurred. This is because Lazzaro cannot be, must not be, a social example. And above all, a film dragged by the wind, a recurring sound element. As in the fulminating moment of music coming out of the church and following the characters down the street. A wind that drags and carries away with it. Perhaps the only, true element of freedom. #cinema #cinematography #lazzarofelice #happyaslazzaro #alicerohrwacher #martinscorsese #scorsese #hélènelouvart #adrianotardiolo #albarohrwacher #nicolettabraschi #lucachikovani #agnesegraziani #tommasoragno #sergilópez #sergilopez #natalinobalasso #galaotherowinter #edoardomontalto #carlomassimino #maddalenabaiocco #giuliacaccavello #elisabettarocchetti #cinemaitaliano #italiancinema #CinemaTok #fyp #fy
