✨Rule #1: I track my cycle. I’ve tracked my cycle for over 3 years and have a deep understanding of when my pelvic symptoms tend to increase during the month. For me, it’s during ovulation and 2-3 days right before menstruation. This is pretty common as estrogen and progesterone take a big dip right before your period starts. There is also a rise in prostaglandins (released to help uterus shed it’s lining) and the combo can cause inflammation and pelvic tension. Rather than listening to generic “cycle syncing” advice that is just a cookie-cutter approach to women’s wellness, tracking my cycle has allowed me to identify patterns in my own cycle that correlate with increased pelvic symptoms. ✨Rule #2: I modify intensity of my workouts. I modify the intensity of my workouts during ovulation and 2-3 days before my period when my pelvic symptoms tend to flare. High-intensity exercise can cause exercise-induced inflammation (I’ve felt firsthand an increase in my pelvic symptoms when I pushed myself too hard during these times). Exercise is still beneficial, but instead of going all out, I tone it back to a low-moderate intensity to support my body, rather than add to the stress it’s already under. No type of workout is really off limits, you can still run, weight lift, and play sports, I’m more so concerned with the intensity at which I do ‘said’ activity. It’s important to remember that pelvic symptoms can flare up at any point in your cycle. This training concept isn’t just for pre-period days — you can tailor it to fit your body’s unique needs throughout the month. Paying attention to when your symptoms increase and adjusting your movement accordingly can help you stay active while keeping your pelvic floor happy. ➡️Follow @thepelvicconfidencedoc for more evidence-based women’s pelvic health tips! #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvicfloor #menstrualcycle #menstrualhealth #cyclesyncing #cyclesyncingmethod
