@thebirthdayfairyproject: Today, December 23, is the birthday of Veronica Moser-Sullivan. She would be 18 today but she died in the Aurora theater shooting at just 6 years old. She was an amazing little girl – an avid reader, an artist, a big talker, a swimmer. She was happy, energetic, curious, innocent, outgoing, and non-judgmental. Veronica loved school, loved her mom, and was looking forward to becoming a big sister. The shooting that took her life, also took the life of her unborn sibling, and left her mother paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. The family had been to the doctor’s office for a pregnancy ultrasound earlier in the day and were celebrating with dinner and a movie. Despite a history of extreme paranoia and a conviction on violent assault charges, the shooter passed a background check. He bought a Ruger AR just 6 days before his attack and possessed 10 high-capacity magazines. After the attack, he spent time in the state hospital in Colorado, initially deemed unfit to stand trial. If only his mental state made him unfit to purchase weapons, high-capacity magazines, and military-grade ammunition. He killed 12 people, injured 70 more, and was eventually sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Of note, Colorado banned high-capacity magazines after the Aurora shooting, but gun manufacturers and retailers continue to skirt the ban by selling parts kits which enable buyers to build their own. #sensiblegunlaws #honorwithaction
