It's not a dream, he survived a shock or something that caused him stress and this is the result, his nerves play when he relaxes. I was the same, it took me a long time to sort myself out.

The other night I thought mine was laughing in his sleep so I nudged him he was fighting off a shark that he was trapped with in his dream ,when I nudged him I scared him and he woke up ready to fight
