@catieosaurus: Replying to @baradinafthank you for this amazing question! hypervigilance is such a difficult thing to unlearn, wherever you are in your journey, know that you're not alone #adhdhyperfocus #audhdtok #hypervigilance #audhdinwomen
if you grew up the way I did, you learn how to be both at the same time 😐 even when I was completely hyper focused on something, I always had to keep an ear out for my name being yelled 😓

When my AuDHD kiddo is in hyperfocus and we knock on her door. She is startled, shrieks and is plain scared by the noise. Is this what we’re talking about?

can you talk about hypervigilance and autistic masking? from this description they sound similar to me? like I'm constantly analysing everything to see what I'm "supposed" to do? how does that differ?

It feels like being paralitically stuck to the thing without losing the sensory awareness of the environment. causes high impatience and jittery feeling

This breakdown has made me reflect on how much of my life has been defined by hyper vigilance. Not loving that for me

"I may not have noticed until now that I haven't eaten today, but I can still hear the second someone sets foot on the staircase. Also why am I so tired today."

When I’m in hyperfocus there’s a part of my brain expecting to be interrupted and it makes me hyper vigilant for brief moments

for me hypervigilence keeps me from being able to hyperfocus. now that i'm in a safe space and i can loose myself in my art, hyperfocus is a really joyful space for me.
