@the_green_bird_brigade: Replying to @raymond cook III Why Aurora couldn’t fly 🦋 Aurora was surrendered in November of 2022. Her original owner bought her as an unweaned baby from a pet store the year before. He had little knowledge of what a bird her size required. At just over a year old, Aurora was underweight and malnourished when she arrived. As a result of poor nutrition, she lost all of her primary wing feathers at once. This shouldn’t happen. In a normal molt, feathers are dropped and regrown in a gradual, bilateral pattern to avoid a bird losing their ability to fly as Aurora did. Through hard work she was able to become a strong flyer and even went on her first free flight trip last July! #bird #parrot #macaw #flight #fly #rescue #rescuebird
