@funkyashido: Replying to @Scot Godfrey thanks for giving me a chance to share. Oppressors know the power that joy has and does not want us to use it becaue it’s scarily effective to them. In the 1700s, Alexander Hewatt saw enslaved africans celebrating as riotous disruptions. “…idleness, riot, wantonness and excess; in which the slaves assemble together in alarming crowds, for the purposes of dancing, feasting and merriment.” Oppressive forces hated it so much that enslaved africans were not allowed to gather. Were punished for showing human emotions. Only to show happiness if it was to entertain them. As the Workers Dance League say, “Dance is a weapon in the revolutionary class struggle.” We need everyone to fight how they know how. The warriors, healers, teachers, homemakers, artists… everyone has a role to play and a skill to use to get us collectively to a just world. I’m hoping the joy I create on the digital streets can seep into action in the physical streets as well. And maybe that didnt resonate with some folks.
