Unfortunately If the government doesn’t tax us for OT. The companies will probably restructure the 40 hour work week. So we don’t get OT.

I made 5 hours of overtime so an 85 hour check. but I was still payed like I work 80 hours. so I worked 5 for free

Income should not be taxed at all. Only tax the things that are bought. That way there is no criminal tax evasion.

I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure mandatory overtime is illegal. You do not have to do it and they cannot fire you for it.

Agreed. I’ve worked in retail the past 9yrs. OT and bonuses/commission should be tax free. Seeing up to half of it taxed is awful.

I do HVAC so I get a lot of bonuses and they get taxed, out of town bonus, overtime, night and traveling distance and I get taxed on all of it

Bonuses are not “taxed” at a higher rate. Unless you instruct them other wise, payroll companies withhold taxes at a standardized rate (I believe 22%)
