@packleaderdogs: Understanding the concept of Nose-> Eyes-> Ears is critical to understanding how to teach your dog things like a recall. A recall is being able to signal your dog to come to you no matter what they are doing. It's something everyone with a dog should have the ability to do. Many people realize this but do not teach it the most ideal way, in my humble opinion. What usually happens is that people try all sorts of different noises or movements to trigger their puppy to come to them. The issue with that is that they are using a human's best senses, eyes/ears on a dog whose best sense is their sense of smell from nose. I always engage the nose with an enticing treat and then back away from the puppy. The scent motivates the puppy to see where the scent is coming from. When they see its me, the puppy starts coming towards me. As the puppy is coming towards me, I say "Roxy come," to mark the behavior of coming to me. The more repetitions we do of this, the more "Roxy come" means stop what you're doing, go to human for reward. The best time to teach this is right away in puppyhood. If you missed that, the 2nd best time to teach this is now! How is your dog's recall?

So my dog also does all these things when I have a juicy treat. But when she’s galavanting across the neighborhood… any kind of recall goes out the window. How do you fix that
