Actually, there are countries that accept currency besides their own including the USD. Panama, Tanzania and Canada are just some examples.

Even if ‘some’ places except USD, the exchange rate will likely be terrible. Always best to exchange your USD at a bank to the local currency!!

I've been to dozens of countries where they will accept USD without question... Literally just got back from South Africa and when I was short on Rand they asked if I had USD to make up the difference

Your logic makes sense, but the same logic should apply to Canadians, no?I would have never thought I can use CAD in another country. Yet Americans come to 🇨🇦 all the time thinking they can use USD.

I used to work in a touristy market in Melbourne, Australia and the amount of times I had to tell US tourist that I can only accept AUSTRALIAN dollars, not US dollars is ridiculous.

When you pay with a card it will ask you if you want to pay in your nation’s currency or in euros. Always choose euros or you’re gonna get a large conversion fee.

In Europe and Africa South America all have accepted the dollar and some places/people actually prefer USD over their currency from my experience

Girl I understand you as someone who is American (also from Boston) also living in Europe (Munich). But some countries do take other currencies like Turkey takes EUR and UAE takes USD just as examples

My last trip to Paris I used dollars. Many in fact. The restaurant by our hotel asked if we were paying in cash, could it be the dollar. I spent several hundreds of dollars as it was higher than euro

Yes, but people from other countries (not the US, EU) also might have different currency and they don’t travel much. But they know that currency and banking system is different in other countries.

Countries with currency restrictions or runaway inflation will be overjoyed to take $. But check that you are not committing a crime.
