the ref hands the ball to the player indicating it was a dead ball, illegal, however if it was a dead ball because of a timeout after a score, the player can run the baseline and that's a legal play

Ruling, if it’s a spot throw in, illegal. Time out has nothing to do with it. After an opponent score this would be legal. Yes, I’m a ref.

Assuming this was after a made basket or coming out of a timeout after a made basket then this is legal. If it was any other type of dead ball then it’s illegal

Only off a made basket. With the official handing the ball to the player, unless they're was a time out, this was likely a dead ball situation.
