@60minutes9: The victims of the White Island volcano disaster have been awarded NZD 10.2 million in reparations, as a New Zealand judge sentenced four tour operators for failing to meet their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act. The four companies ordered to pay reparation and/or fines are White Island Tours, Whakaari Management Ltd, Volcanic Air and Kahu. 47 people were hiking to the volcano's crater in December 2019 when the eruption occurred, with almost half dying from extreme burns and blast injuries and many left seriously injured.
