You don’t have to pay for the subscription but you do lose access to the nighttime routine if you don’t use the subscription. But the wake up settings are all the same!

You don’t need to pay for a subscription (at least I didn’t for my first gen), it kinda makes it seem like you do but you’re able to use it you just won’t have access to “better” settings
