@bloombergpolitics: Who are non-doms, and why is the #UK overhauling its system of preferential #tax treatment for wealthy foreigners? Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt said in his budget speech Wednesday that the “non-domicile” status would be abolished after more than two centuries, with a new tax system based on where people live taking effect from April 2025. Alice Kantor explains more. #politics #budget #worldnews #taxes

For very wealthy people, it’s not as simple as they’ll just leave the UK. They can leave as individuals, but their assets and/or businesses will still be onshore in the UK/ subject to tax

That only applies to foreign incomes that they do not bring to U.K. The income brought to U.K. would be taxed

Income earned outside the U.K. shouldn’t be taxed. Whilst living inside the U.K. money brought into the U.K. during your stay is subject to tax just the same as everyone else.

Will just leave the UK after 2 years. its just weird to pay taxes again in the UK when that income already paid taxes in the country where it was earned. this is double taxation
