for remote jobs I'd expect staff to be available at 8am, so start up your computer 2 mins early (while making a coffee or something) so emails/teams is open and ready at 8am

to be fair, with the same logic, if you start work at 8 and u don't work from home u have to leave your house at 8. that's a bit extreme, preparing for your work day is not part of you work day. 1/2

Honestly, this is exactly like corporate America looks like. My mom worked for a huge corporation and they would ask her to sign in and be prepared way before she started working
