@mrs.allen.81: Are practice logs important? Do you lie about your practice time? #band #banddirectorsoftiktok #middleschoolband #banddirector #practice #practicelog
My school never did it. As a saxophone player who had to walk to and from school everyday, it would be a nightmare bringing my intrument home every night to practice. I usually bring home my (1)

I think it just encourages lying. Some parents will just sign it as well.

actually I think the practice logs would be great as a student, because if you lie then when you get to class you can see that the student has improved rather than being the same as yesterday 👍

I don’t give practice logs. I give practice lists instead. A checklist of how to practice and what to practice.

I tried using them… didn’t go very well. Where I saw the most growth was teaching my kids HOW to practice, because I learned that most of them didn’t practice because they didn’t know how to practice;

Been teaching 15+ years. Never done a practice log. I hold them accountable with playing tests. The student decides how much they need to practice to earn the grade they want on the test.

Playing test. PL tend to encourage dishonesty...especially when it comes to eligibility. Ands parents are part of it because little Johnny must to be eligible to wrestle.

I give my students a log- and if they get 5 parent signatures, they get a sticker. But, they also have a weekly lesson grade, so if they’re not prepared, they don’t get the full points. My kids know

I don’t do them. Mainly they usually lie on them (I did in middle school). Also you can usually tell who goes home to practice and who doesn’t.

Imo practice logs only work if people care enough to practice. Cus some ppl can just cheat or not try. It works to keep certain students accountable( ones who care)

(1/2) 100% this! Practice logs test compliance, not learning. I worked at a school that required 140mins logged every week for a grade. 🤮

I definitely lied about it. Your band performance overall is just better if you want to practice. Being forced isn't fun. No practice logs will really tell you who actually wants to practice.

kids nowadays take being told what to do much worse than in the past, and it will inevitably be the kids with a good work ethic who become the most successful, so practice logs widen the musical gap

I went back to practice logs this year. I put a “song of the week” on the log and check for improvement at the next lesson. They can also choose a prize if they return their log and come prepared.

I like practice logs, and more of a reflective aspect. They write down what they practiced, and add a comment about how well or bad it went. If they didn’t practice, they can explain why if they want
