Actually usted means you - we used to use thou in same way as Spanish tu (think Shakespeare)

About the Brazilian Portuguese part: although “você” is very common, “tu” (a more informal version) is widely used in the whole country. Love the vid!

In flemish Dutch 'uw' is preferred over 'jij'. It's the equivalent of usted but in reality is used among friends 😉

fun fact: The same thing that happened in Brazilian Portuguese (only addressing people by what would be a formal you) happens in English. "You" was originally also the formal way to address someone...

I think he got that one wrong, Usted comes from the Arabic word أستاذ which is more of an adjective arabs usually give to show how much they respect and look up to someone. nowadays in the MENA region

(1)Also, in Mexico and other Latin American Countries, we don't have "Vosotros" (which is how you address your peers) we only have "Ustedes" (which is how you address your "Lord" or Boss)

Isn't that the same as in English? "You" was originally the formal way of addressing people, but now it's for everyone.
