It’s hard to believe but the aristocracy, titles, contested inheritance, War of the Roses etc were real things that could have independently been inspiration for fiction.

GRRM is heavily into history. That's where ASoIaF comes from. Alot of its themes are from real historical events. The writer of Dune probably had similar inspiration.

Nah boarding schools for centuries are called houses. Wards named after patron saints etc. Dune didn’t create houses
