@pbsnews: Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossom trees have beat their own festival this year, reaching peak bloom two weeks earlier than normal. The National Park Service tweeted that the blooms hit peak bloom – when 70% of blossoms are open – on Sunday, March 17. The only earlier peak bloom date on record was March 15, 1990 that was thanks, in part, to a heat wave. But as global temperatures rise, the average peak bloom date has moved six days earlier. #washingtondc #peakbloom #cherryblossom #cherryblossoms #cherryblossomfestival #dc #dctidalbasin #climatechange #globalwarming #dccherryblossom #pbsnews #news #newshour #nationalparkservice #nationalparks
