Drum tuning and techniques associated with it are very subjective. Like this one from Simon Phillips in how he stretches out his bass drum head. The video overlayed was back in the 1980s (I think?!?) when he made a video on tuning and getting his drum sound. The main video you see was post August 17, 2024, years after that first video was made and you see Simon is still stretching out his drum heads like he did back in the day. Pretty wild!! I used to say that I would never do this because of how much more I weigh than Simon does. My thoughts on this have changed because I now have been doing this with extreme caution. I am sometimes changing drum heads on more than 4 to 8 kits in a week. Applying CPR to each head becomes exhausting. That’s why I have sometimes implemented this technique and have had no issues at all since doing it. Although, in most situations, I don’t think it’s smart to do because you don’t want to put too much stress on the shell, bearing edge, or drum head. Yet, I do think it’s fascinating and something to look into. What do you guys think? Have you ever given these techniques any thought? Would you ever dare try it on your bass drum head? Leave a comment. Let’s talk about it! Love you guys!! Okay. Byeeeee. 🥁🤓👊🏻❤️🙏🏻 — #testabeatdrums #thedrumsultant #drumtuning #snaredrum #snare #drummer #vibe #geartok #drumtok #process #technique #fixxerupper #tuning #sound #CapCut #drumtuning #techtip #tensioning #tipsandtricks #tuningtechniques #drumsultant #techtip #bassdrum #SimonPhillips
