I had no idea about indexation and they did make it seem like no big deal to have a HECS debt. There was no mention of indexation at all and I feel like it was hidden from us on purpose.

Paid 6k off last financial year and they added 5.5k on it because of inflation. It’s an absolute disgrace! Can’t afford to buy a house or rent either.

But they act like people don’t know about the indexation at all. People had an idea about the indexation, but it was never that high, but they don’t make the information easily accessible, especially

HECS debt should be tax deductible. Ie if you make 100,000 pay 10,000 then you should be taxed at 90,000 . Govt gives no incentive to reduce the costs!

Even if she gets a job in psychology agree and it pays a great amount. She’ll get taxed horrendously while she also has other expenses. The advantage of buying a house will take her 50 yrs.
