Isn’t English a base 12 language? All numbers from 1-12 have distinct names, and we only switch to base 10 on 13 and onward

well like i guess it depends on how you define "real". like obviously imaginary numbers aren't cardinal as in they don't refer to quantities of real objects, you can't have 2i potatoes

i mean there’s research that indicates numerosity is a primary visual feature which would seem to imply there’s a concept of number or quantity that exists pre-linguistically

Imaginary numbers are things I use in Quantum Mechanics a LOT as a physics student. It’s just sqrt(-1) at the end of the day.

As physics major, they are imaginary. There is no number that can be squared to a negative, you have to imagine the hypothetical number that could.
