I hate it when I pop and oil pan off and it looks like someone sealed it with chewed gum. A little goes a long way when it comes to liquid gasket sealer.

I have pulled motors apart that still had shop rags in the oil valley....Came in because couldn't understand why oil pressure was low ...shredded cloth everywhere!!

I like to smooth the silicone if needed then dab. When you tighten down it’s like Rice Krispies, so satisfying. Yet never excessive to cause that issue.😁

Unless the manual actually calls for sealant, installing a gasket dry is usually sufficient

I had a motor go bad in a car I got, pulled it and posted about this same thing on Facebook, and someone tried to argue with me it’s supposed to be like that 🙄

took a 3406 cat apart to overhaul to much silicon from previous person it had silicon hanging from the pickup tube like spaghetti
