It's that way every where. We would be fired if we took anything or gave it away. They also get a bigger break on taxes for the loss than they do for donating.

all companies do. grocery stores etc. they have to. its law. say if something is outta date or refrig good hits 43 degrees its gotta get tossed. thank your gov not the store

That's why I LOVE our Texas Bill Miller's bbq. If U go close to closing time, they'll offer U 25 cent pies, discounted BBQ burgers, like a whole bag. Hopefully, they still do this.

Our Starbucks here donates their unsold food items rather than waste. They also give the drivers free coffee.

It’s because it’s a tax write off, if they donate it it’s not a tax write off it’s a donation. Also after it’s labeled as waste they can get in trouble if people eat it. So it makes sense

My job used to donate all our food to feeding America but our state halted all hot food because of bacteria but cold food is ok. So maybe that’s why they toss the hot food

Because there is only a four hour window for which it can be held safely in the hot bar. Once that four hours is up, it’s no longer safe to eat, and they must dispose.
