The average home gardener does more amending and maineneace to their soil than the average large scale farms. We see our entire garden every day and see what it needs.

Except i prefer Michigan State University soil lab who now sends to lab in Indiana broke the results down perfectly for my 27,000 sqft back yard garden based on kind of vegetable. Cost $35

In KY, soil tests cost $6 and you specify what type of garden you are growing in. They gave my results in amount per 10 sqft. So good labs should provide you results in a form you can use.

I used ChatGPT! I put in the the soil test results, the square footage, a list of all the plants I’m planting, and then asked it to tell me what my soil needs! It was a long AI conversation lol

not that it's part of a basic soil test, but getting soil lead/ heavy metal tested can be really important for urban growers on potentially contaminated sites

I have gardened all my life, I was taught by my Pawpaw who gardened all his life. I have never and my Pawpaw never had a soil test.
