The boy’s laughter, wild and unburdened, rises with the crickets’ song, the puppy’s frantic barks a joyful echo—two creatures untamed, free as the wind they race. Here, time unfurls differently. It stretches, bends, holds its breath in the glow of the setting sun. The earth itself feels softer beneath unshod feet, the air richer, laced with the scent of wildflowers and hay. The boy and his dog are not just companions but halves of a whole, bound by something elemental, primal. It feels infinite. But it isn’t. Nothing is. The fields seem endless, but the seasons turn. This childhood will close in, days once boundless pressed into the narrow corridors of adulthood. The wildness will dim, the light will shift.
