Nancy, 86, and Stan, 91, both from Edinburgh, got married in 1957 after beginning a 'forbidden' romance due to her parents not approving of their relationship. However, as Nancy reached her mid-50s she was nearly killed by a huge brain hemorrhage and underwent life-altering surgery that would ultimately lead to the demise of her relationship with Stan. However, as both entered their 80s, they each started to develop signs of dementia to the point where they were no longer able to care for themselves. Karen, their daughter, decided to move Nancy close to where she lived in the West Midlands.
