Lamb Shanks INGREDIENTS: •2 lamb shanks •1 tsp salt •1 tsp black pepper •1 tsp mixed peppercorns •3 tbsp oil •1 onion •3 garlic cloves, minced •1 cup carrot •1 cup celery •1 1/2 cups red wine •400g / 1 can crushed tomatoes •2 tbsp tomato paste •1 1/3 cups beef broth •2 tsp dried thyme •3 dried bay leaves  TO SERVE: •Mashed potatoes (add butter & cream / milk, season to your liking) INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat the oven to 180°C (all oven types – fan and standard). Pat the lamb shanks dry and season to your liking. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pot over high heat. Sear the lamb shanks until brown all over, about 5 minutes each side. Remove lamb onto a plate. Turn the heat down to medium. Add remaining 1 tablespoon of oil into the same pot. Add the onion and garlic, cook for 2 minutes. Add carrot and celery. Cook for 5 minutes until onion is translucent and sweet. Add seasonings (salt, black pepper & peppercorns) Add the red wine, beef broth, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Place the lamb shanks into the pot. Turn stove up, bring liquid to a simmer. Cover, then transfer to the oven for 2 hours. Prepare your mashed potatoes. Remove lid, then return to the oven for another 30 minutes (so 2 1/2 hours in total). Check to ensure lamb meat is ultra tender – if not, cover and keep cooking. Remove lamb onto plate and keep warm. Pick out and discard bay leaves. Strain the sauce into a bowl, pressing to extract all sauce out of the veggies. Pour strained sauce back into pot. Simmer over medium heat. Serve the lamb shanks on mashed potatoes with plenty of sauce! Garnish to your liking and enjoy. #slowcookedlambshanks #lambshanks #redwine #redwinesauce #mashedpotatoes #EasyRecipes #FoodTok #explore #pov #trending #fortheloveofcooking #fyp #zinhle_homecook #tiktok #tiktoksouthafrica #DinnerIdeas #fypシ
