Any idea on why classical psychedelics and chronic THC use can trigger schizophrenia?

Is this why a lot of anti-psychotics, esp the 1st gen, have the tardive dyskenesia side effect? Because if dopamine is down-regulated then it leads to a movement disorder?

As I’m listening to this I can’t help but be curious as to what distinguishes severe anxiety from schizophrenia…it seems like they’re so similar. Could anyone explain the differentiation?

How do you get help, my brother has this exactly but in our state of New Mexico there is only one psychiatric hospital willing to help him but only for 7-14 days. We don’t know how to help him.

From a pharm aspect, it’s like the opposite of ADHD that needs D agonists to pay attention. Schizop is like having too much dopamine to pay attention when stuff *isn’t* there and uses antagonists

I try to explain it by saying “the dopamine is turned up too high, we’re gonna try to turn it down”

My mom has schizophrenia, and when you started going over the examples using the triangle, it was eerie how well that captured the experience.

Is there a distinction between paranoid schizophrenia and non paranoid schizophrenia or is it all just shades of the same thing

When I feel myself slipping, it's so scary because it's like I'm watching myself lose the ability to think and then slowly I stop being able to recognize that's what's happening.

I was in psychosis and recognized I was having delusions, but couldn’t identify which thoughts were. It’s unsettling but makes more sense with your description. Thanks for your explanation!

Schizophrenia has always fascinated me. Thank you for explaining so well. What’s fascinating is that a lack of dopamine causes Parkinson’s. Such a different disease.
