Agreed, a gap year is a great way to learn. Stats showed after gap year they were out of practice for studying and many don’t go on to uni.

I do agree with a lot of what you’ve both said but a fair amount of employers ask for degrees for jobs that don’t need it. It’s one of those situations where you can’t win. I’m personally doing a c

I have a 24 and 15 Yr old I always said that if they aren't in that "5% bracket" don't bother with uni as its a debt you don't need. My 24 Yr old still isn't sure what path he wants to take but uni..

I personally didn’t go to uni, I opted for short and/ or certificate courses which are the majority of the time free to do and I’ve not found them to be frowned upon in the workplace.

When I recruit I favour experience over a degree - have employed people with a degree but it really doesn't always equate to competence ❤️

It’s also because companies are obviously going to rather hire someone with a degree versus not

Like you say unless it’s in that very small category but there’s so much out there and hands on experience is everything especially now

i think the over all package of earning a qualification whilst also becoming an adult and becoming independent is worth it but the debt is a big downside

I always knew I wanted to do childcare level 3 qualified but others go to uni to do level 4/5 and it doesn’t often change your job or money ect

As someone who couldn’t stay at home, uni is the easiest and in the short term cheapest way to move out and start a new life for yourself.

A degree isn’t just about the specific knowledge though. It gives you transferable skills eg research, presentation, critical thinking

Uni is important for learning life skills as well though, the debt is high, but it’s more of a tax. I would recommend everyone to go away if they can x

I’d defo encourage a gas year especially cause now they want you in school longer so i definitely think it’ll help them find themselves and figure out what they want to do and also give them life

I personally know more people who didn’t go who’ve been successful earlier than those who went to uni… it’s defo needed for some but for the others it’s 100% overrated!

What are “most successful people” and why is it always about how much they earn? Good degrees teach transferable skills useful for most jobs. Bad degree not so much…
