@healthebayaquarium: These are baby California skate pups! Skates are closely related to rays, although they do not have a stinging barb (stingrays have these spines for defense), and they are also oviparous--meaning they lay eggs while stingrays (viviparous) give live birth to their pups. In this video the skates are using their modified pelvic fins to “dance” 💙 "Shell-ebrate" Earth Month with us and join our "Battle of the Babies" at Heal the Bay Aquarium at the Santa Monica Pier. You can borrow reusable cleanup supplies like gloves and buckets at the Aquarium for a self-guided cleanup at the beach every weekend this April. Bring back your filled buckets to the Aquarium for weigh-in, choose which animal you would like to support, and at the end of the month, we’ll tally the total pounds collected by each fandom to see which baby will emerge triumphant. This Earth Month, let’s see who emerges victorious in the battle against beach pollution! . . . #aquarium #healthebayaquarium #earthmonth2024 #beachcleanup #skates #rays #babyanimals #healthebay #sharkpup #nonprofit #santamonicapier #santamonica #losangeles #cleanup #earthmonth #earthday #protectwhatyoulove
