In 1985, pilot Scott Gordon couldn't land the plane because the landing gear failed to deploy and got stuck. Fortunately, a hero mechanic named Joe Lippo, with the help of two other mechanics, ingeniously repaired the landing gear and assisted Gordon in landing. As the Moser car raced at 90 miles per hour on the track, Lippo went out through the sunroof and released the plane's landing gear. At this point, the plane was flying only 10 feet above the ground.
